Last Minute Ideas

Holy cow we leave on Friday. I will try not to "Mommy-stress" between now and then. So much to do, so little time.... I can sleep on the plane! :)

Ok. My last minute "to-do's"... For my TNT run last month I got my singlet. (word of warning, they're SHORT!...Like, not even clearing the belly-button!) I went to my local craft store (Michaels, AC Moore) and got iron-on transfers that can go in the printer from my computer. I printed out a pic of my grandfather with the words "In Memory" above it, and a pic of Gid with the words "In Honor". I then ironed them onto my singlet. Way cool. I'm also putting ribbons in the faculty rooms of all the buildings I've taught in....people can write the names of family and friends that have battled cancer. I will pin them to the back of my singlet. Really motivational when you're tired!

Great idea, Kristin!

I'm also bringing iron letters for adding names to singlets. (I think I have 5 packs and each includes 2 full alphabets.) I'll also have some puffy paint. We can have a little singlet decorating party in my room at some point for anyone interested. I sound like the arts & crafts teacher at camp. :)

Oh, GOOD! I just got back from Olean without iron on letters and missed my chance at leaving the boonies again until we leave. I'm packing now as I type.

Count me in on the shirt decorating :) Sounds fabulous!!! :)

Very excited about the arts & crafts party! At this point, I'm in denial that I'm leaving in 2 1/2 days. I'm just assuming I'll be ready . . . And that Keith & Logan will be ready for four days without me (seriously, they're somewhat helpless . . . I have a feeling Logan's Veggie Tales quota for the next year will be filled) Still don't have a singlet and don't know what one is, even (I'm picking it up tomorrow, though)

I need to decorate my shirt, too. Thanks for working that out, Amy!

Kristin - I want to do the ribbon idea, too. I bought some, but when I wrote on it with a Sharpie, it bled. What type of ribbon/marker are you using?

Jen, I am using a Sharpie. It bled? Hmmm... try a fine point maybe?

Ginny, if there is anything specific that you would like to put on your singlet, please tell and I can do a craft store run for you. No big deal...I pass it twice a day to and from work.

I have already ironed on my name. My letters are white. Friends also got iron on patches that represent them and ironed them on too....peace sign, flowers, shamrock, etc. They look cute.

Heidi, I spent my lunch break today typing out a day-by-day, at times hour-by-hour, and also minute-by-minute schedule for Gid w/ the kids. Dad has to do 4 days, including 2 school days, without me! I've already emailed my kids' teachers and gave them the heads up!! The gals at the before/after care program assured me that they would double check for me and make sure my daughters hair is brushed! :) I'm nervous about the kids/school deal. Whose HW folder needs to be signed, what goes in each lunch box, who has band, who goes to the sitter, etc. AAAHHH!!!

Who was saying that the battle now is mental??!!! Ya think????!!!!! :) Any advice on how to turn my brain off???

Here's what I have:
Iron on letters- 10 alphabet sheets
Puffy paint- 3 small tubes

Feel free to bring anything you might want to throw into the decorating pot. I'm not sure how far the things I have will go but we'll soon find out! :)

Heidi- I'll leave you in suspense about the singlet. There are so few surprises in life, ya know? ;)

Ooohhhh....Singlet. Yeah. Umm.... Amy I don't know what you did for Nike last year, but for my race 3 weeks ago I was mighty glad I had the shirt under it. No matter how empowered I feel (look at me run!) there are some things in this life others do not need to see. My gut is one of them. Heidi, your experience with the singlet may be entirely different. Just think of it as an added bonus to this whole adventure!!! (can't wait to see the singlet posts next!)

For Nike I'm wearing not only my ironclad sports bra, worthy of holding up these bad girls, but also a long sports bra/tank/thingy as a barrier between the girls, the gut,and the singlet.

OH! Side note.... besides the whole body glide, balmex thing, any other recommendations on chaffing? Any time it rains my back scabs up from the bra rubbing for countless miles. That's another reason for the double layer of bra/shirt. Trying to keep the fabric close and tight. Scabbed up backs do not help the "girl runners are hot" image.

Ouch, Kristin! I don't have any advice, but sure hope the double layer helps!!

I'm backpedeling as my "day off" yesterday consisted of bringing Josh and Nathan into the dr.s office to discover they have a virus called "hand, foot and mouth disease" - NOT related to the mad cow disease I thought it was. Good grief! So, yes, my children are watching videos ALL day today (getting a head start on Michael showing them some - I second Heidi's opinion on Michael showing them videos this weekend) as I begin to pack! Can't wait to see you all!! :)

Just think of the "I've returned home and found out my kids/husband did..." posts!! :) Us gals have totaled miles and money, let's now total how many videos and junk foods our children consume in 4 days!

I'm almost glad my boys are with a sitter vs. Dad, from what y'all are posting! ;)

KH- I didn't have any singlet length issues. On the bra/chaffing front, I'm not sure what to recommend at this point. Is it only a problem when it rains? If so, here's hoping that's not the case on Sunday. Otherwise, have your roommate help you apply a generous amount of Body Glide to your back, wherever your bra touches your skin.

To the husbands of my running friends with kids: I have complete faith in your fathering/parenting skills and am confident your children will be well cared for and will thoroughly enjoy a weekend with their dads! :)

My singlet issue is a lack of b**bs. Any one have any advice for that?? ;-)

I bought some iron on letters today, too.

Jen, I say - stuff with tissues.

Ah, tissues...you can never go wrong with a classic.
