Seriously, people, it works. It can (and should) be applied anywhere that skin rubs against itself or clothing and as it says on the top, it can even be helpful on your feet. I will forever sing the praises of this product...that is, until something better comes along or until I stop running such ridiculously long distances, whichever comes first. Anyway, if you haven't already, go buy some and give us your life-changing testimonial. (I swear I don't work for the company.)
My last piece of advice to avoid chafing is to wear...spandex. I know, it's dreadful but the sooner you can embrace your butt in a pair of these fashion don'ts the better. It seems backwards but clothes that fit closer to the body are less likely to chafe. So run out right this instant and purchase a pair of these thigh hugging beauties and proudly strut your stuff. Might I even suggest these. (Note the back is lined with pockets, which I used last year to carry gels, ibu profen, kleenex, cell phone, disposable camera & cash, 'cause you never know when you're gonna hit a sale at Macy's!)
Those are my tips for avoiding chafing. Do you have anything to add or even dispute? I'm open to a debate, especially if someone can tell me how to avoid both chafing and spandex!

Yup. My mystery spot is my right armpit. Check it out on my hammock shot with Rees on fb. I bought Body Glide with my new shoes on Sunday, hours after my 20 mile run and my black toes and scabbing armpit. Lovely.
I looked, ouch! BG really should help the armpit. The toenails are another story, I've got one myself. Ladies, these are our battle wounds. Wear them with pride!
Amy, I looked at the shorts you suggested -love the pockets and DIED laughing at the 'view on model' option. I was picturing myself next to that model and know that there would be twice as much rear end there. BG is on my list for tomorrow along with a new pair of shoes too.
I totally missed the "view on model" option! Hilarious!
First, Amy....you really should consider becoming a writer. You're entries are hysterical.
Second, Katie...if you think your rear would be double the size of the models, then mine would be the back of a semi!!! I can hear it beeping now!
(Actually, on that site there are capris just like the shorts that Amy recommends. I think I'll order those---these chubby legs don't do shorts and I like the built in belt thingy on the back)
You all want T.M.I. ? My chaffing area....the crease of my leg where my underwear rub for a ridiculous amount of miles. Yeah, I had BLISTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What's up with that?? What? Underwear optional? Somehow I don't think that is socially acceptable.
Last but not least...women that I run with swear by Balmex---yes, that stuff us Mom's used on our little cherubs' bare behinds. It repels the water (in our case, sweat), prevents against chaffing, and heals those delicate areas that are already rubbed raw. AND it is a fraction of the cost of BG. So, if you are running today and don't have any BG but you do have some diaper cream, try it. Nothing says attractive like the smell of Desitin on adult, blistered, sweaty, chaffed skin!
Y'all are hilarious!! I'll have to check out those shorts. I'm not really a spandex kind of girl . . .do they breathe???
Kristin - I do think some runners think of undies as optional - just FYI. ;-)
I am crying!!! You women are hilarious. We really should get a book deal out of this. What should the title be? "Spandex, Balmex, and Double-X: The ordinary girl's guide to marathon training."
Well, it looks like I returned from vacation just in time for another edifying discussion. I'm sure the book will be a bestseller, Katie!
Sorry I've been MIA; we were in Disney World August 16-26. We had a wonderful trip! And the running news: good news--I ran 10 miles the morning that we left! I ran the whole thing! And I definitely felt like I could have run the entire 13.1, then and there. Bad news--I only ran once on vacation (5 miles). However, now that I'm home, I'm back on schedule.
Still VERY nervous about fundraising. I'm fairly close to $3000, but have no idea where the remaining $1000+ will come from. Hopefully not my credit card.
And as for chafing--no issues so far. Sounds like I'm very lucky.
KH- Thx, I'll add it to my list of attempted careers. :) And yes, it is absolutely acceptable not to wear underwear, I don't w/ my race ready shorts. And if you noticed those shorts are actually recommended for people w/ chafing issues. (I still use BG & if you want more specific info, call/email me...might be WAY TMI if I go into further detail!) Btw, still laughing over the Adult Desitin description!
JD- Yes, they breathe. The Race Ready shorts are a different material that what you might be thinking of and they have a panel that runs along the inseam to help.
KH- Love the title of the book! Quick somebody pitch it to a publisher! :)
HK- Holy crap, you RAN 10 miles!!! Bravo, girl & welcome back from vaca. Oh, I'm also totally jealous that you have no understing of chafing! Lucky, indeed. :)
All- FYI: You can probably find Race Ready shorts in your local running stores so online orders are not your only option. Fundraising- Keep going! This is more difficult than people realize and you've all done such a great job! It feels like you'll never reach your goal but keep reminding people that your deadline is just a few weeks away and keep expanding your network and you'll make it. I'm nervous, too, it's natural.
Hey ladies :) I've missed being online with you all... spent a week with my Mom in Michigan. Last fling of the summer - school/preschool begins Wednesday (do I hear a YEAH from any other parents!!!) I'm very excited about getting back some sort of routine... is that possible with 6, 4 and 3 year old boys? :)
To keep my update short, I'll just echo Heidi. I completed my 12 mile run this morning - went well. Going to do the 1/2 marathon here in Rochester in 2 weeks (then I KNOW I'll be able to do SF!).
I have not had chafing issues except on my FEET - you really can use BG on your feet, Amy? Does it get slimy or make your feet slide?? I'm a little apprehensive about it - anyone else actually TRY it on their feet before?
I also have just hit the $3,000 mark (yeah!)... $1,000 to go... I am the most scared about this aspect though. Running I can control, but other people's giving is a little harder to control.
Great to read all of the funny stories :) You guys definitely keep the smiles going :) Enjoy Labor Day weekend, everyone!
Man, you girls and your vacations and lack of chaffing...count your lucky stars! :)
KO-I totally use BG on my feet, every inch of my them, actually. It doesn't get slimy and it doesn't make my feet slide. It's the consistency of a solid deodorant so it's pretty dry. I noticed it the first day I used it for about 10 min and then never noticed it again. Try it before race day though so if takes a little getting used to you'll have the time. And congrats on your 12 miles!
