Amy- Week 2

The Good: Another Sunday morning team training session accomplished! After last week's run/walk with the slowest running group, I thought I would see what happened if I trained with the walking group. One of the reasons that I wanted to train with the walking group is because our coaches have decided to have us run for a specific period of time and not a specific distance. This is a difficult adjustment for me but I'm trying to go with it and see how I respond. The walking group was scheduled to walk for 45 min. and the beginner running group to run/walk for 35 min. I really wanted at least a 45 min. workout so this was a good chance to see what my fellow walkers were made of! ;) I found three walkers who kept a great pace and I stayed with them for the full 45 min. We walked along the ridge overlooking the ocean, beautiful! I don't own a Garmin so I don't know what our distance was but it was a good workout!

The Bad: After last week's inspirational team run, my hopes were high and I expected to have a week filled with motivation for my workouts. Hm, that was not the case and it was disappointing. I think part of my problem is that I'm not getting home from work until 7:30pm or so and I walk about 1.75 miles a day in my commute. Of course, it's not the same as a concentrated run/walk but it is mileage and after walking home from work, it's hard to put on running clothes and go back out for more. So, yes, my daily life is active and yes, those were excuses for why my midweek sessions were almost non-existent. This week will be better. This week I will make time for my midweek workouts. I am committed to this!

The Mission: Our team has an "Honoree Captain" (Katy) who helps us stay connected to the cause. One of the ways she accomplishes this is to organize a weekly "mission moment" where someone shares their story or reason for getting involved in TNT. This week, she shared a bit about her own young daughter, Audrey (pictured below.) Today is the one year anniversary of Audrey's leukemia diagnosis, she has been enduring treatments since and will continue for another 14 months. As you know, cancer treatments are incredibly invasive, often causing significant changes in behaviors and personalities of patients. Katy was most excited to share that Audrey seems to be more like herself today than she has since treatment began! That must be so exciting for a mom to see in her child. This is why my college friends and I have a goal of raising $27,800 for the LLS. And if you add my mom & sister-in-law, our minimum goal is $34,700! Wow, that's a lofty goal but people are generous and many want a way to help find a cure for cancer so it can be done!

Wow. Thanks for including the picture of the little girl. I can't imagine what they're going through.

Today I ran two miles without walking! That was a milestone for me.

I sure am looking forward to meeting who I'm running in honor of - I think that makes a difference to me. You're right, Amy, the good days with the bad, right? :)

Thanks for the welcome, Kristen. I'm trying to take it one day at a time, and not look forward to the whole week of training. The physical therapist here at work is training for the ironman competition (grueling) and said he focuses on how much he has completed during the workout and not how much is left. I tried to keep that in mind while I was on the treadmill last night (a little boring compared to being outside, to say the least) and found it helpful to the pysche.
Take care everyone, and have a good week.
Kathy
